Satluj, a movie directed by Honey Trehan, starring Diljit Dosanjh, chronicles the true life and disappearance of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, who investigated alleged extrajudicial killings during the Punjab insurgency in the 1990s. Satluj, originally titled "Punjab '95", has faced a heavily documented censorship battle over the past 3 years. Prior to its streaming release, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) reportedly mandated over 120 cuts, and the film was barred from playing in theaters.
ZEE5 abruptly removed the the movie from streaming in India just two days after its July 3, 2026 premiere. The platform cited "current developments" but didn't specify the exact cause. However, reports link the sudden takedown to external objections surrounding the film's highly sensitive subject matter.
Following the abrupt removal from the Indian catalog, ZEE5 stated that it stands by the film and is exploring legal and compliance avenues through due process to bring it back. In the meantime, the feature remains fully available to audiences outside of India on ZEE5 Global. You can track any updates regarding the streaming status of the film in India via the Deadline news coverage.
