Just One Week Left
There is only one week left in our Double Your Dollar matching fundraising campaign. Thanks to your support, we have raised $41,000, matched to total $82,000. However, we need $280,000 to operate for the next six months. Please help us reach our goal by donating today and sharing this campaign with your friends.
It takes remarkable courage and extraordinary dedication to fight for justice against a powerful state, and we see these qualities exemplified in the family of Kuljit Singh Dhatt. On July 23, 1989, Punjab Police officers abducted, tortured, and unlawfully killed 35-year old Sikh community leader, Kuljit Singh Dhatt. For 25 years, his family has relentlessly pursued justice, attending over a hundred hearings, petitioning various courts and commissions, and enduring police harassment and the intimidation of witnesses. On May 9, 2014, a judge convicted three police officers of abduction in order to murder Kuljit Singh Dhatt, sentencing them to a mere five years. Ensaaf provided litigation support in this case and will continue to aid the Dhatt family in their struggle for justice. The legal battle still continues, now in the higher courts. Please visit our multimedia page on the Dhatt case, A Labor of Love: Contesting Impunity, and view videos, a photo essay, an interactive timeline, and more.
We are humbled by the tenacity of the hundreds of families speaking out about abuses and fighting for justice for their loved ones. Let’s stand in solidarity and show that we, as a community, are here to support them. Donate now.
