Ensaaf Kicks Off Year-End Giving Campaign, Launches New Website
(Portland, OR) Ensaaf has launched a new website that makes it even easier to contribute to the movement for truth and justice for victims of gross human rights violations in Punjab, India.
Donors can now go to www.ensaaf.org and click on the “Make a Donation” button to sign up for secure recurring donations. As little as $10 a month will make a significant contribution to document human rights violations, advance key legal cases, and empower survivors to advocate for their rights. By supporting Ensaaf, you are investing in a sound strategy that will end impunity and achieve justice, ensuring a future based on the rule of law.
Three Great Reasons to Give
Before he was killed by Punjab Police in 1995, human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra estimated that Indian security forces extrajudicially executed and secretly cremated 25,000 Sikhs in Punjab. These violations were committed as part of the Indian government’s counter-insurgency operations from 1984 to 1994, which Human Rights Watch described as “the most extreme example of a policy in which the end appeared to justify any and all means, including torture and murder.” None of the hundreds of perpetrators who bear responsibility for these atrocities have been brought to justice. Your contribution to Ensaaf will help to:
1. Expose the Truth about Enforced Disappearances
Your donation allows us to objectively document human rights violations, publish ground-breaking reports, and educate the public. Just $10/month for a year will support the documentation of cases of 20 families whose loved ones were abducted and killed by Indian security forces. Your support ensures that the families’ voices are heard.
2. Advance Legal Cases to Hold Perpetrators Accountable
With your donation, Ensaaf will continue to give crucial legal support to precedent-setting litigation to hold perpetrators accountable. In September 2006, for example, Ensaaf drafted the international law arguments for the High Court petition against former Punjab police chief KPS Gill for the murder of activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. Just $50/month for a year will allow us to petition the Supreme Court in other disappearance cases. Your support ensures that the worst human rights abusers are brought to justice and new human rights activists can advocate for justice without the fear of retaliation.
3. Empower Survivors to Advocate for Their Rights
Your contribution helps educate and empower survivors about their rights under international law. Just $100/month for a year will allow Ensaaf to launch a “know you rights campaign” to reach over 600 survivors of human rights abuse, or send two survivors to the United Nations in Geneva to advocate for their rights.
The Time is Now: Together, we can defeat impunity for mass state crimes in order to protect and enforce human rights in India. International public opinion has an impact on India’s domestic policies. Ensaaf represents your voice for justice and human rights in public forums, media outlets, judicial bodies, and at the United Nations, so that India cannot bury its crimes. Ensaaf is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, making your contribution tax-deductible. Donate to Ensaaf today. Thank you for your commitment to our work.
